This self portrait presents a deliberate withdrawal from direct eye contact shifting the dynamic between subject and viewer. The downward gaze removes confrontation and replaces it with quiet observation allowing the viewer to engage without resistance. The dominant blue palette reflects introspection calmness and emotional depth while the dreadlocks and piercing reinforce individuality and personal identity. Created during a painting class in Estonian Arts Academy, the work balances technical study with psychological exploration. It suggests that sometimes distance is not avoidance but a form of control over how one is perceived and experienced.
